The first real Socialist town of Nowa Huta

Visit the communist town of Nowa Huta which was built as a symbol of industrial Poland (apartment Krakow). The construction started in 1950s and to complete it lots of workers were brought from other small towns and villages. The location was chosen with the purpose to eliminate clerical and conservative elements which were still present in the Cracow’s inhabitants’ minds.

From the very beginning Nowa Huta was thought to be a huge centre of heavy industry and it was populated mostly by industrial workers from the Vladimir Lenin Steelworks, the biggest tobacco factory in Poland or a huge cement factory.
